About Us

We are committed life-long outdoor adventurers.  We have spent a lifetime learning about and enjoying the earth God created.  We were employed for many years and have created Exchange Cove Lodge as our early retirement project.  We are the owners of North Pacific Tackle and the creators of the Halibut Scent System fishing lures (www.northpacifictackle.com).  Click the following link for a blog about the creation of Exchange Cove Lodge.  www.exchangecovelodge.blogspot.com

We love travel and have visited about 30 countries.  We have recently spent several years as humanitarian service volunteers in South Africa and Russia.  Мы говорим немного русский языкъ.  We are now ready to settle down to our retirement project.

WHY WHALE PASS?

We traveled to Alaska for fishing adventures once or twice a year for the last 25 years.  In that time, we fished many areas in South Central Alaska and Southeast Alaska.  Whale Pass provides in a single location the best of the many different places we have fished plus a very unique summer fishery.  Besides that we have weak stomachs and enjoy the swell-free fishing conditions.

Summer Coho

The Neck Lake summer Coho run in late June, July and August provides the opportunity to catch these salmon with a fly rod or a spin casting outfit.  It is sight fishing at its finest with schools of Coho salmon often finning near the surface of the water.  Neck Creek frequently contains thousands of Coho salmon at high tide, many jumping.

King Salmon

Fish from the Stikine River salmon run can be intercepted near Whale Pass in May and June.  Feeder King Salmon are frequently found throughout the year near Whale Pass.

Fall Coho

We have access to fall Coho on both the east side and west side of Prince of Wales Island.  We fish the east side from the Whale Pass dock and the west side by launching at El Capitan and going out through Dry Pass.  Fall Coho are also found in local creeks.

Halibut

Halibut fishing in the protected inside waters near Exchange Cove and in Snow Pass is world class.  We typically fish water 100 to 200 feet deep.

Deer

Because the human population of our island is low relative to the deer population, bag limits are very liberal.  Whale Pass is the last populated place directly on the road system on the north end of the island.

Bear

Because there are no brown bears on our island, the black bear is the apex predator.  This results in some of the world’s largest black bears.

People

The people of Whale Pass are some of the most friendly and helpful people we have found on earth.
