Timing of the Neck Lake Summer Silver Salmon Run (also called the Snow Pass Coho Salmon Run and the Neck Lake Coho Salmon Run)
The graph on the right shows the timing and strength of the Snow Pass Coho run at Whale Pass. These fish are sometimes called the Neck Lake Coho and also trademarked and sold as Snow Pass Coho. SSRAA has a cost recovery facility in Whale Pass. Fish are harvested and sold to pay for the hatchery operations that produce the fish. This graph shows the number of fish harvested at Whale Pass each week. The numbers on the left of the graph are the cumulative number of fish harvested. The numbers on the bottom of the graph are the statistical weeks of the harvest. For example, statistical week 27 was the seven-day period June 30 through July 6 in 2014. The graph shows that 10,000 fish were harvested during this seven-day period. These are fish that have escaped the commercial fisherman in the salt water and the sport fisherman in Whale Pass Bay and Neck Creek. The harvest has always continued through statistical week 34, which in 2014 ended August 24. The years 2013 and 2016 were poor salmon years, but 2014 was the best year ever with approximately 70,000 fish harvested. The average number of fish over the five year period is 39,000 fish harvested. Click here for information on the Neck Lake Coho Project.
