From Wrangell, Alaska (Recommended route)

Purchase airline ticket to Wrangell on Alaska Airlines. Flights depart from Seattle and arrive in Wrangell mid-morning and late afternoon.
Schedule a water taxi from Wrangell to Whale Pass and return trip to Wrangell well in advance with Breakaway Adventures. Their numbers are 888-385-2488 and 907-874-2488.
If you have made prior arrangements, Breakaway Adventures will meet you at the Wrangell Airport. They will take you to a grocery store if one is open when you arrive, and then transport you to the water taxi.
Ask the captain of the water taxi to call Exchange Cove Lodge with your arrival time and we will meet you at the Whale Pass dock. Your travel time is about 1 1/2 hours.

By Ferry

Purchase airline ticket to Ketchikan on Alaska Airlines or Delta Airlines. Arrive in time to catch the Alaska Inter-Island Ferry to Hollis which leaves at 3:30 p.m. Book your return flight after 1:00 p.m. on your day of departure.
Purchase a round trip ticket to Hollis and back to Ketchikan on the ferry. You will arrive in Hollis about 6:30 p.m. Their phone number is 866-307-4848 and their website is www.interislandferry.com.
Rent a vehicle in advance from Hollis Adventure Rentals or other car rental vendor. Hollis Adventure Rentals’ phone number is 907-530-7040 and their website is www.hollisadventurerentals.com. With advance notice, they will meet you at the ferry with your vehicle.
Drive 93 miles to Whale Pass. You should purchase gasoline and groceries in Klawock. The grocery store closes at 8:00 p.m. You will arrive in Whale Pass about 9:30 to 10:00 p.m.
Depart very early from Whale Pass on your departure morning to arrive at the ferry in Hollis in time for the 8:00 a.m. ferry departure. You will arrive in Ketchikan about 11:00 a.m.

Special Instructions for the Salmon Run Period. There is a five night minimum rental period during the Salmon Run with specific days for arrival and departure. (For 2018 from Sunday, July 1 through Saturday, August 5.) Purchase airline ticket to Ketchikan on Alaska Airlines or Delta Airlines. By Float Plane

Taquan Air currently provides scheduled float plane service to Whale Pass from Ketchikan on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
The Tuesday flight is normally scheduled to depart from Ketchikan at mid-afternoon, the Saturday flight early morning. Please contact Taquan Air to book tickets and learn the schedule. On your travel day please call us at 907-846-5330 from Ketchikan when you are ready to depart. We will listen for the float plane and pick you up at the Whale Pass dock.
The Tuesday return flight normally departs Whale Pass late-afternoon, the Saturday flight mid-morning. Please check with Taquan Air for exact Whale Pass departure time and Ketchikan arrival time.
The personal baggage allowance is 40 lbs. Baggage beyond 40 lbs. is charged on a price per-pound basis.
Charter float plane trips may be scheduled at other times with Taquan Air or other vendors.

Schedule your charter float plane return flight to Ketchikan early-morning the following Saturday. You will be charged for five days lodging and services and if meals are elected based on nights stayed. With prior approval, you may use the Saturday scheduled Taquan Air service and stay at Exchange Cove Lodge for seven days. Because Saturday afternoon is our normal housekeeping period, your accommodation may not be ready when you arrive. We will store your baggage until your accommodation is prepared. You may start your adventures upon arrival. You will be charged for seven days lodging and services and meals if elected..

Driving to Whale Pass from other location on Prince of Wales Island

Follow the road signs in the direction of Whale Pass.
When you get to Neck Lake Junction turn right toward Whale Pass (this is the end of the paved road). Exchange Cove Lodge is about seven more miles.
Follow the signs to Whale Pass or look for the yellow Exchange Cove Lodge direction signs.
Turn left on the road toward Exchange Cove. This turn is about 1/2 mile before you arrive at the Whale Pass boat dock. If you arrive at Whale Pass dock, come back the 1/2 mile. We are the first buildings on the right, about 200 yards up the road to Exchange Cove.
